Most of Indonesian do not agree with the artists' involvement into politics as it can shifts the existence of politician in Indonesia; moreover exacerbate domestic credibility with the ‘unprofessional’ positioning profession. They assume that artists only rely on their magnet popularities in politics, they already have had a lot of fans, and their own imaging in public will be able to come into the politics easily. Karel Harto Susteyo as a political analysis said that the existence of the artist in politics is a shift in government. Their presence in politics can change political issue into an entertaintmet news that will be a ‘booming’ news in public sphare, and it clearly explains that artists don’t have a good implementation in politics.
But anyway, it is
also not appropriate for us if all of the artists are judged so, because the existance of the artist in politics do not entirely damage the Indonesian nation, still there are some positive sides
about their existences in politics. It has correlation with ‘their own way’ to contribute in
politics. It is needed to know that the art of politics has existed since the time
of ancient Greece and Rome. At that time, there were known term in
politics: ‘Art Politica’ (the art of politics) and now, politics mostly
mentioined as ‘Art Possible’ (the art
of possibility; the meaning is the changes that may have occurred, either
something possible can be not possible or the otherwise). And the people
involved in the politics can be called as a political
artist. If we consider it, the art itself is etymologically derived from
the word ‘Art’ (English) or ‘Artes’
(Greek) that shows the meaning of a person's profesionalism obtained from
talents and experience. (Sahid Gatara, 2009:26)
Can we say that artists joining politics is a political artists? Yes, of course if they are being professional in
politics. Do the political artists
still exist? Yes (again). That is why we cannot
judge that artists in politics are bad at all. Because in fact we still
can find the artists who have a big contribution for politics in our country,
for example Tantowi Yahya, Rano Karno and Dede Yusuf who have
expertise in their art politica. With
another sense, they still have a high professionalism in solving political
problems in this country, they choose to leave the entertaintment world to
concentrate, understand and learn about politics then being knowledgeable in
politics, and as the positive side they also can introduce this country to the
international society by their fame. That’s their own art politica. Another example, showed by Rhoma Irama who contributes
in politics by his spirit of song such as “Ibu Kota” songs about prevention of
overcrowding society, and changing government system in his “Euforia” songs.
It’s his art politica to contribute
by appealing and approaching to the society and integrate the society in
one-better point of view.
Thus, the
existence of artists in the art politica
can be a professionalism barometer of the artists themselves for their
contribution in politics. In addition, as solution it’s our turn as society,
also the government, to emphasize the artists selection in politics; hence we
have to deterimine the artists who really have the abilities in the art politica.
